I feel that the residents of the Town of Preston owe the BlogMaster and WebMaster a HUGE debt of gratitude. Fantastic job, Bob!

The new blog is a valuable sounding board. We hope that it will be used to respectfully air points of view so that we will have a close, supportive community here in our special town.

Well, thanks for the kind words!! Like you I'm hoping this blog is well used and like our Pipeline a vehicle where people can vent a bit and let others know how they feel on the issues of our day.

This web site is a valuable asset to the residents of the Town of Preston. I find, however, that many people in Town do not know that it exists. It would be nice if the Town would send a postcard or some sort of mailing to the residents to make them aware of the web site so that other residents can utilize this resource.

Editors Response: Getting a website/blog publicized is hard work. The Pipeline did a piece on it when we first started, and there was an article I wrote in the Pipeline for their last edition on the site. The Blog was also mentioned in a Reminder piece a few weeks ago. I'm not too confident the town would fund a town-wide mailing, but it might help the readership numbers for sure! For now "Word of Mouth" is what we have to do. The site is set up so that search engines (Google, etc) find them pretty quick so if someone wants to find us we are very available. Thanks for your positive commentary. Bob Payette

I agree that the Town would probably not support a town-wide mailing to inform residents of this web site. I am sure that the First Selectman could get the newspaper reporters for the Norwich Bulletin and the New London Day to print a brief article in the newspaper to get the word out about this web site and some of the valuable features it has to offer. I can see that you put a lot of hard work into this site and I am sure many residents would use the site if they were aware of it. It would also free up time spent by employees at town hall who make copies of minutes and agendas when people request them. It is convenient to be able to access this information online and to save ourselves a trip to the town hall. Please pass this suggestion on to the First Selectman. Thank you.

what do the residents of Preston think about the zone change for vineyards which is commercial zoning guised as agriculture.

There have been no posts on this subject that have come our way. There was commentary on a citizens letter to the local paper, but nothing else that I've seen.

Dear Editor:

As we celebrate efforts to "Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle" this Earth Day, we would like to congratulate the Southeastern Connecticut Regional Resources Recovery Authority (SCRRRA) for having gone one step further by rethinking landfilling and deciding instead to convert their municipal waste into clean, renewable energy.

It was a bright idea back when the Covanta Southeastern Connecticut facility was built and it is looking even smarter today. For 17 years, the facility has provided reliable waste disposal services, processing over 4 million tons of waste into enough energy to power 12,500 homes every day. Reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and foreign oil to create renewable energy, the facility has offset 4 million tons of greenhouse gases from being emitted into the atmosphere. Annually, we also recycle approximately 5,000 tons of metals from being landfilled. So, by reducing the amount of waste going into landfills, Covanta Southeastern Connecticut and SCRRRA work every day to help create a sustainable environment. And that's important because Earth Day should be celebrated every day.
