A reader suggested we set up a Board of Education - Public Schools discussion area....

"How about a blog to open up questions and/or discussions with the Board of Education and the people in town about our schools?"

Ask your questions or leave your comments on Board of Education-Public School issues in this section. What is working....what are the concerns?

To the Board of Education members: Dear Friends, You devote a lot of time to this important civic job. Please remember: You are the employER, NOT the employEE. As elected by the townspeople to act in the stead of all the residents, you have the overwhelming responsibility of overseeing the education of our precious children, our future. As elected, you also have the fiscal responsibility. Thank you for your time and efforts, and remember, we, the townspeople represented by you, are the boss.

There's a great article in today's NL Day "Preston Has 'Apetito' For Grammar" which is worth reading!

The proposed school budget may include a half-time instrumental music teacher for grades 5-8. Preston is the only feeder town for NFA that does not provide a band or choral program at the middle school level.

It is apparent from reading the comments that many residents have concerns, questions, and ideas relating to the Preston’s Education Budget. As a member of the Board of Education, I welcome and encourage residents to share their questions and concerns with me personally or with the Board. The Board is committed to communicating the educational needs and requirements with the residents of Preston. The Board is very cognizant of the dire economic conditions facing us all and is committed to presenting a responsible budget.

There was an "Anonymous" comment made that we published, even though it was in poor taste. We originally published it as there was no specific names mentioned, but it was pointed out to me that people thought the post itself was slanderous. After giving it some thought we have agreed, and I've pulled the comment.
