Give us your comments on what you see as the negative side of living in Preston.
This Blog was set up as a "Talk Back" vehicle for Preston residents to communicate their ideas and opinions on the issues of the day concerning the Town of Preston CT. It has been discontinued effective January 24th, 2009 due to lack of use and commentary. As of this date (Jan 24, 2009) new posts are not being accepted.
Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing, but not when it’s used to hurt people, cast innuendo on their character or otherwise make them feel bad. There is a good chance the person who is “attacked” will not read the Blog and even know he-she has been publicly assailed and hence would not have the opportunity to refute the comment.
If you log in or provide me with an E-mail contact address I will promptly address any issues with you directly.

We really could use a nice Chinese takeout place! It's a bit far to drive into Norwich for chicken soup and the odd wing....
Not having any school-age children has made it more of a challenge to meet/befriend neighbors here in Preston. It has been an adjustment moving to a more rural area.
Just an observation...Not a complaint!
WELCOME to our community. I trust you will learn to love it. (And I hope all of us old-timers will take note so that we make it a point to welcome new-comers! )
It IS more difficult to meet townspeople when you do not have school-age children. Some suggestions: join a town committee, attend one of our Churches, walk down at the Preston Community Parks & Rec field, or (don't laugh) spend a few minutes each Saturday at the dump--lots of bantering, politics, and general chatter go on there.
Again, welcome! We're glad you are here.
I don't like that there is no bank, post office, or pharmacy in Preston. There isn't even one blue mail drop off box. Hope the Hospital property developer considers these requests!!!
How people like to gossip, make assumptions and ruin others lives because they don't want their own lives looked at.
What I dislike about Preston since we have had the same leadership is our taxes have been increasing consistantly every year. With the re-assement to raise our property values in a time when the housing values have dropped dramacaly. Taxes seems like another way to take advantage of the residence. I think the selectman and body should be thinking about a different way to save money then to spend money! Why do we need a new library? Can a addition be added to the exising town hall? I would love to work in a new new building to my specifacations to make my job easier! Why do we have to have the town hall and libary together, is this just another way to raise our taxes again? Lets re-think our spending habits? I don't know about you, with the economy the way it is, I am getting taxed out of preston!
Ahhhhh....they finally passed the education budget. It had to go to referendum a few times before it passed, when they could have probably passed it on the first one by eliminating waste in their department. The town employs a "Buildings and Grounds Supervisor who gets paid a substantial amount of money, (if I am not mistaken, it is somewhere in the neighborhood of $70,000) who spends more time in the office chatting idly with the staff, mostly with the Principal behind closed doors for hours on end, and at PVMS with the Superintendent. I think perhaps they should change that job title to "Lawnboy Extraordinaire".
As a taxpayer, I think that salary could be spent in a more positive way, that would actually benefit the students at the school, as my child was one of the many unfortunate ones that did not get "chosen" to take a language last year. This persons salary could be used more productively perhaps to hire two part time language instructors, i.e. Spanish, or French, therefore affording every child the opportunity to take a language, as it should be anyway. What a shame that we have to pay for such waste. No child left behind? Except for foreign languages I guess! How sad.
I'm sure this won't get printed, which is probably under the catagory of "what I don't like about Preston" however, it happens to be the truth, and this country does promote free speech....not in Preston I'm afraid......and that is not surprising!
