I love the rural roads, the stone walls, the trees....and most of the people

I love the quaintness of Preston having a general store that sells chickens and paint, that doesn't have a fast food restaurant or big box store....the small Selectmen form of government where everyone knows each other by name, and where town meetings get feisty as times. We're a throwback to an earlier simpler time, but still have the modern conveniences of fast Internet connections, access to modern and good quality medical care and open fields and woods for our visual delight. We have serious issues facing us, but a great volunteer base to work and solve them. That is OUR Preston.

Thanks for mentioning the great volunteer base in Preston - it's true - volunteers are critical to just about every function of our little town. If you see something that needs improvement, it's easy enough to volunteer and become a part of the solution.

I suppose I like lots of things about Preston - but most of all I like the people. Those "feisty" meetings are a testament to the fact that our historic town meeting form of government is going strong.

Hmmm, more than a decade ago I wrote an article in the Pipeline with the catch phrase, "Keep Preston as you like it - get involved!" That invitation still holds. Begin by logging in to this blog and sharing your thoughts in this new-tech community forum. Think of it as the new town green - a perfect place to hang out with the herd.

I have to agree with Gail. Our citizens make this community one of the best in Southeast Connecticut and you could not find a better form of Government then the Town Meeting type Government.

She is also right that Preston has a lot of volunteers that care for this very precious community. I am not knocking people that are not involved with a board, commission, or committee in town because none of us know other peoples situation. But I do know that if people were personally contacted and asked to volunteer to offer their time and talent we might be surprised the response we would get. I think asking someone personally makes them believe it is a sincere offer and most people I believe want to help when asked.

I had the opportunity to go to the Preston Ethics Commission Meeting the other night and saw first hand the hard work these commissioners are putting in so the Ethics Commission will be a success and something our Town can be proud of. This commission is currently looking for 3 alternate members. I urge residents that are interested in a worthy dedication of their time to consider applying for this very important commission.
